qIf you’ve spent any time in insurance lately, you’ve probably heard two letters more than any others: AI.
Depending on who you ask, artificial intelligence is either the greatest opportunity the industry has seen in decades or the next big thing causing sleepless nights across agencies, brokerages, carriers, and MGAs.
The truth? It’s probably both.
During a recent Alliance Insights conversation, Certified AI Insurance Credential (or CAIC) founder Jay Greene shared a perspective that should resonate with insurance professionals everywhere: AI isn’t about replacing expertise. It’s about helping professionals work smarter, faster, and more strategically.
Watch or Listen:
Jay’s journey into AI began while trying to help an agency owner overwhelmed by growth opportunities but constrained by inefficient workflows. Despite years of insurance experience, Jay couldn’t immediately solve the problem. That frustration led him down a path of building AI solutions and eventually creating the Certified AI Insurance Credential (CAIC).
One of the most interesting takeaways from the discussion was that agency readiness isn’t necessarily tied to sophistication. Some organizations still rely on paper-heavy workflows, while others have spent years layering technology onto existing processes. In many cases, success depends less on the tools themselves and more on the quality of the underlying data and workflows.
The conversation also introduced the idea of the “agentic agency.” While it sounds futuristic, it’s already becoming reality. AI-enabled agencies can automate portions of lead generation, communications, data capture, customer service, policy servicing, compliance tracking, and more. The goal isn’t fewer professionals. The goal is giving professionals more time to focus on advising clients and solving problems.
For newer insurance professionals, AI presents something even more exciting: opportunity. Unlike many traditional knowledge advantages that take years to develop, AI expertise offers emerging talent a chance to become valuable contributors and leaders much earlier in their careers.
As Alliance President & CEO Will Hold emphasized, AI doesn’t require you to be a technology expert. It requires curiosity, a willingness to learn, and the confidence to start.
The biggest message from the discussion was simple: start now.
Not recklessly. Not without a plan. But begin developing an understanding of how AI works and how it might impact your business.
The future of insurance will still belong to trusted professionals. The difference is that tomorrow’s most successful professionals will know how to combine industry expertise with AI-powered efficiency.
And that future is arriving faster than most people think.
